Sewing machines help Bogura women become self-reliant

Bashundhara Shuvosangho Distributes Sewing Machines in Bogura

Bashundhara Group distributed sewing machines among 20 underprivileged women in Bogura sadar on Sunday as part of its initiative to promote women’s self-reliance and economic empowerment.

Speakers at the programme praised the initiative and urged other business groups to come forward to support disadvantaged women alongside the government’s efforts.

Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised the distribution programme at the Bogura Sadar Upazila Parishad hallroom at 11:00am after providing the beneficiaries with three months of free sewing training.

Bogura Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdul Wazed attended the event as chief guest, while Bogura district BNP vice-president and Sadar upazila BNP president Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel spoke as the chief discussant. Bashundhara Shuvosangho director Zakaria Zaman chaired the programme.

Addressing the event, Abdul Wazed described the initiative as highly commendable and said joint efforts by the government, individuals and private organisations could help women achieve financial independence and contribute to national development.

Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel said the initiative had set an example for other industrial groups in the country. He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had been working to advance women’s empowerment and private sector participation would strengthen those efforts further.

Zakaria Zaman said Bashundhara Group continued humanitarian activities across the country under the guidance of its chairman and would continue such efforts in future.

Bogura Social Services Officer Tarikul Islam termed the programme exemplary and said such initiatives could open the path to economic freedom for disadvantaged women.

BADC Bogura assistant director Masud Parvez said Bashundhara Group had contributed not only to business and media but also to social welfare activities aimed at uplifting underprivileged women.

Former councillor and BNP leader Raju Hossain Paikar called on other business leaders to come forward and support women’s empowerment initiatives.

Beneficiaries, including Sharmin, Shammi and Rita Akter, expressed gratitude after receiving sewing machines. They said the support would help them earn an income, support their families and meet their children’s educational expenses.
