Anvir Bashundhara Group Foundation initiative brings smiles to orphaned children

Anvir Bashundhara Group Foundation initiative brings smiles to orphaned children

A few boxes, a bed and a small trunk make up the modest personal belongings of many of the 250 children living at Jamia Mohammadia Hafizia Madrasa and Orphanage in Dhaka.

While many children spend their Fridays with their families, these orphaned children often face life without such comforts. Sayem Sobhan Anvir, chairman of Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) Foundation, has sought to bring them some joy by providing quality meals every Friday.

Rather than holding lavish celebrations on special occasions, including his birthday, Anvir chooses to spend those days bringing smiles to underprivileged and orphaned children, according to organisers.

On Friday, students at several madrasas and orphanages across Dhaka received special meal packets after Jumu'ah prayers as part of the foundation's weekly initiative.

The organisers said the programme provides more than food, offering the children a sense of care, dignity and reassurance.

Children eat food provided on behalf of ABG Foundation Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

Students said Friday has become one of their favourite days of the week as they look forward to the special meals.

"Many orphans here had a good meal after a long time. Everyone is happy. Anvir Sir has done a wonderful deed. We pray that he continues to support madrasa students and feed orphans," said one student.

Maulana Abdul Latif Faruqui, principal and founder of Jamia Mohammadia Madrasa, expressed gratitude to Sayem Sobhan Anvir for the initiative.

"This initiative does not just satisfy hunger; it also supports the emotional well-being of these children and reassures them that they are not alone," Faruqui said. "It gives them faith that compassionate people still exist."

Maulana Rafiqul Islam, an assistant teacher at the madrasa, praised Anvir's low-key approach to philanthropy.

"Without publicity or fanfare, Sayem Sobhan Anvir Sir has been carrying out this work out of a sense of duty," he said.

Under the leadership of Sayem Sobhan Anvir, chairman of Bashundhara Group, the foundation regularly provides meals to at least 1,500 underprivileged people and 500 orphans every Friday, according to the organisation.

The foundation also arranges Sehri and Iftar meals during Ramadan, distributes meat during Eid-ul-Azha and provides winter clothing and educational assistance to disadvantaged people.

Gazi Badal, a senior executive at ABG Foundation, said the organisation would continue its welfare activities.

"ABG Foundation is a welfare organisation. As part of our weekly programme, we distributed quality food at four madrasas in the capital today. We regularly provide food to underprivileged people and will continue these efforts in the future," he said.

Beyond his business role, Sayem Sobhan Anvir has earned recognition for his philanthropic activities, with the foundation providing support to disadvantaged individuals and institutions through various welfare initiatives.
