Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) have expressed their willingness to collaborate, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in building a modern, livable, and green city.
DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a courtesy meeting with ABG Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir at the corporation’s office in Gulshan on Monday (August 17).
The DNCC administrator said, "Bashundhara is a model residential area and ABG is one of the country’s major business groups as well as a major stakeholder of the city corporation."
“The ABG chairman came at my invitation. Coordination among everyone is necessary for urban development. We discussed issues of mutual interest,” he also said.
Shafiqul Islam Khan said several important stakeholders were involved in urban development and that DNCC wanted to build the city through coordination with all of them.
“Everyone’s cooperation is necessary to build the city. As a major organisation, Anvir Bashundhara Group has assured us of its cooperation in urban development. We also discussed how the city corporation can extend as much cooperation as possible in providing public services,” he said.
The administrator said DNCC had made preparations well in advance to control dengue and had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards mosquito larvae.
He said strict monitoring was underway in 10 zones through a dengue prevention task force, while mobile courts were being conducted to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes.
He said surprise drives were also being carried out at government offices and other places to detect Aedes larvae. Where larvae were found, legal action was being taken through mobile courts and warnings were being issued.
Stressing public awareness in residential areas, the DNCC administrator said the city corporation couldn't enter individual homes to control mosquitoes.
“Residents therefore need to keep their own premises clean. We have increased monitoring of government offices and other institutions,” he said.
Shafiqul Islam Khan said regular spraying under DNCC’s pre-planned programme was continuing and that mosquitoes were currently much more under control than at any time in the past.
“As soon as the rainy season ends, all possible hotspots will be identified and special measures will be taken to control mosquitoes,” he said.
